The Lupong Tagapamayapa settles disputes between residents amicably and free of charge, without going to court, under the Katarungang Pambarangay Law (RA 7160). Most community disputes must first pass through the barangay before a case can be filed in court.

How it works

  1. 1
    Mediation

The Punong Barangay meets with both parties to help them reach a settlement, within 15 days.

  2. 2
    Pangkat conciliation

If mediation fails, a Pangkat ng Tagapagkasundo (three-member panel) is formed to conciliate the dispute.

  3. 3
    Certificate to File Action

If the dispute is still unresolved, the Lupon issues a certification that lets the parties bring the case to court.

A settlement reached before the Lupon has the force of a court judgment once final. Filing is free.
